Debra graduated from New England School of Acupuncture (NESA), in 1992 as a Diplomate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Located in Watertown, Massachusetts, NESA is the first acupuncture college in the U.S. and has a prestigious reputation of being one of the finest schools in the field. NESA is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), which is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncture and Oriental medicine practitioners.Debra continued her education with an internship at the Zhejiang College of TCM in Hang Zhou China in 1999. In addition, she stays current within her field through continuing education course work. She stays actively certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, NCCAOM, the highest accrediting board in Acupuncture through this continuining education. She is licensed by the Connecticut Acupuncture Licensing Board through the Department of Public Health. Debra is a co- founder of the Connecticut Society of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CSAOM) www.csaom.org and has served on the Board of Directors for 5 years in the positions of Treasurer and membership coordinator, Vice President and most recently as President.
Trained in all aspects of Oriental Medicine, she is able to combine several styles and approaches of acupuncture in her practice including a Japanese style of acupuncture using very shallow insertion of the needles. Needle free treatment is also offered. Herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, gwa sha and tui-na, other modalities of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), are also utilized as part of a comprehensive treatment protocol when indicated. Diet, exercise and lifestyle management are also considered in treatment.
Debra is a 1981 graduate of Castleton College in Vermont where she received a degree in science and her RN degree. She has practiced as an RN in the fields of oncology, maternity, and developmental services for many years and is knowledgeable in western medical diagnosis, testing, and medications, helping to bring a fuller understanding to the patient care process.
