Acupuncture and Chinese medicine works with a wide range of disorders and imbalances including but not limited to, varying pain conditions, xerostomia, musculoskeletal, gastro intestinal, respiratory and gynecological problems, post stroke imbalances, and endocrine disorders . Although many people may suffer from the same problem, for example headaches, each person has their own specific set of symptoms involved with their headache. Location of the pain, intensity, duration, triggering factors, digestive or eye problems that may accompany the headache and the type of pain, such as tight, burning, stabbing etc are involved. Therefore, each patient will receive a specific diagnosis taking all this information into account and a course of treatment, tailored specifically to them, determined by a thorough examination using chinese medical diagnostic parameters will be outlined. Treatment of xerostomia, a debilitating problem of dry mouth, usually as a result of damage to the salivary glands from radiation therapy, can be treated with acupuncture. I have studied with Dr. Richard Niemtzow (USAF Col.)who has pioneered a very successful treatment for this condition. (see link below for further info about Dr Niemtzow’s work)
Studies have shown that acupuncture and herbal medicine can contribute greatly in achieving and maintaining a pregnancy. I have worked extensively in the area of reproductive imbalances, helping those who are in need of assistance with conceiving naturally or through ART. Treatment with acupuncture and herbal medicine can regulate the menstrual cycle and promote ovulation. Studies have shown that regular acupuncture treatments can improve the overall function of the reproductive system making it easier for those having difficulty conceiving to become pregnant.
I also place a strong focus on helping those undergoing ART procedures including IFV and IUI, working with women at any stage of the process, including pre and post transfer acupuncture treatments. Secondary or unexplained infertility, anovulation, poor egg quality, habitual miscarriage, thin uterine lining, PCOS, premature ovarian failure (elevated FSH) and endometriosis as well as male issues of poor sperm quality or quantity and morphology are many of the imbalances that are believed to respond well to acupuncture and herbal medicine and have contributed to the success of many healthy babies being conceived and born. Donor egg recipients receive treatment to regulate and strengthen the reproductive system and help to remove any imbalance that may prevent successful implantation and pregnancy. I have worked many years through referral from the major reproductive centers in the region. My background in maternity nursing gives me unique insight in the reproductive process. I have studied with Miki Shima, Giovanni Macioccia and Mike Berkley, three of the leading reproductive teachers in the field of infertility in eastern medicine.
Everyone presents a different set of issues when they come for treatment, whether it is past surgeries, emotional or physical trauma, medications or dietary and lifestyle habits. All of these factors are taken into account and considered when a course of treatment is prescribed. I will work in a partnership with you, always offer you my best advice within the framework of my skills and knowledge and work respectfully with you within your level of comfort and needs. Needle free treatment using moxibustion is offered for those who have difficulty or initial trepidation with the thought of needles. They are however, hair thin, flexible, virtually painless, sterilized and disposable.
